Gideons Present Bible To Local MP

Mark Reckless, Member of Parliament for Rochester and Strood, was delighted to welcome members of the local branch of The Gideons to his MP surgery last week.

It is a long established custom for The Gideons to offer Bibles to locally elected members and civic dignitaries. Mark Reckless was happy to receive a personalised copy of the Gideon Bible from local Medway branch members David Kendrick and Chris Clemence (pictured above).

The Medway branch of The Gideons has been in existence for over 50 years, and covers a large geographic area which stretches from Swanscombe to Sittingbourne. Locally, The Gideons provide free copies of the Bible to many hotels in the area alongside copies of the New Testament to hospitals, residential and care homes.

The Gideons also offer free copies of the New Testament to Year 7 students in over 40 schools in Medway, as well as to local members of the Police, Fire and Rescue and Ambulance services. Bibles are also placed in prisons and secure training establishments within the unitary authority. On average The Gideons distribute around 5,000 copes of the Scriptures each year in and around Medway through various channels.

Following the presentation Mark stated:

“I was honoured that The Gideons chose to present me with a personalised copy of the Bible. They are a very important organisation who do great work locally and nationally. It was a great pleasure to meet their local representatives, Chris and David, and to receive such a wonderful gift.”
